Rod Zullo – Sisko Medal
The National Sculpture Society (NSS) presents the 2025 Sisko Memorial Medal to Rod Zullo.
Rod Zullo is dedicated to teaching and mentoring others, continuing the legacy of equine artistry. Many of Rod’s students have advanced in their careers because of his mentoring and enthusiastic approach to living as an artist. Stephanie Revennaugh says, “Rod is very generous in sharing his knowledge of sculpture through his workshops and beyond. His guidance with materials, techniques, working with foundries, and the general landscape of art as a career set me well on my path as a sculptor. Thank you, Rod, and congratulations!”
Rod studied studio arts at Montana State University and apprenticed with master sculptors Floyd T. DeWitt and Kent Ullberg. He regularly teaches at the Scottsdale Artists’ School (Scottsdale, AZ) and at Brookgreen Gardens (Pawley’s Island, SC). Rod was instrumental in starting the Equine Sculpture Program at The Culver Academy in Culver, IN; a unique course to inspire students in grades 9-12.
Rod’s work is in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Wildlife Art (Jackson, WY) and Brookgreen Gardens (Pawley’s Island, SC), as well as in private collections around the world. He is represented in galleries in Bozeman, MT, Scottsdale, AZ, Santa Fe, NM, and St. Augustine, FL. His work has been featured in the book “Sculptors of the Rockies,” Southwest Art Magazine, Big Sky Journal, The Bozeman Chronicle, Western Art and Architecture, Fine Art Connoisseur, Western Art Collector, and Pulse Magazine.
The Sisko Memorial Medal is a uniface medallion created by and named in honor of NSS Fellow and Board Member, John Sisko (1958-2016). It is presented for distinguished service to Sculpture through programs sponsored by the National Sculpture Society. Rod Zullo could not be with us at the presentation on June 6, 2025.
His Instagram post reads, “Grateful to the @nationalsculpturesociety and my peers for this beautiful award in memory of John Sisko. I wish I was in New York tonight for the ceremony. Very grateful. Remember, the only shortcuts are running red lights on the way to the studio!”
