Dan Droz has been a sculptor for over 40 years and was also founder of Droz and Associates, a leading marketing and design firm. Since 2018, has devoted full time to sculpture, dealing with overlapping themes of internal transformation, the ambivalence of ‘what is real,’ and the appreciation of what is often hidden from obvious view. For 18 years, he served as visiting professor of Design at Carnegie Mellon, co-founding the first U.S. program in interdisciplinary design thinking, integrating artists, designers, engineers and MBAs. Professionally, he has been recognized an unprecedented 31 times as a “Designer of the Year” by American Marketing Association, as well as the “Designers Choice” award by ID Magazine, “Best of America” by Abitare (Italy) and an unprecedented 7 Daphne awards for product design. In 1996 was recognized as one of six distinguished design alumni of Harvard College, his alma mater, for his contribution to design practice and as a design educator.
His sculptures explore both literal and metaphoric transformations, usually employing folded aluminum panels to create forms which deal with the struggle to be unique, without materially changing our the intrinsic qualities – the fundamental essence of who we are.
