On Friday, May 23, Deran Wright’s Freedom Oak, was unveiled by the Fisher House Foundation on Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.  The bronze tree, which weighs two tons, was purposely designed to show the hardiness of the tree from its roots to its canopy of leaves. Wright describes Freedom Oak as “a good American tree,” combining its heritage and its symbolism with the purpose of the meditation pavilion. “A lot of the symbolism of the oak in particular is of strength and courage,” Wright says. “It’s a real, mighty oak, and from small beginnings grow huge things.”
