On Monday, August 19th, California Sculpture: Works from Northern and Southern California Communities opened at National Sculpture Society ‘s Gallery in New York City. The juried show features the works of 14 contemporary sculptors and is on view through October 18. Jurors were Eugene Daub, FNSS, and Alicia Ponzio, NSS; both elected members of National Sculpture Society residing in California.

The NSS Ambassador Community Program is a relatively new initiative intended to increase communication and individual contact with a growing number of sculptors in regions around the country. Ambassadors work with the NSS offices and members of their community in an overall effort to involve sculptors, celebrate sculpture, and educate the public about sculpture through programs in regional communities.

Sculptors featured in the exhibition are: Mark Edward Adams, NSS; Manuelita Brown; Gina Cohen; Susan Read Cronin; D.L. Engle, NSS; Jacquelyn Giuffré; Lance Glasser; Adam Matano, NSS; Kate Mikhailov; Deanna Rae C. Montero; Maidy Morhous; Mickey Quinn; Judy Salinsky; and Cynthia Siegel.

National Sculpture Society was founded in New York City in 1893 by a group of America’s most prominent sculptors. Its members have created much of this country’s public sculpture, coins, and medals since the late 1800s. It is the oldest organization of professional sculptors in the United States and has been hosting exhibitions for over a century. Fellows (FNSS), Elected Members (NSS), and Associates designate the types of sculptor membership in the organization, which is international in scope and appeal. National Sculpture Society is dedicated to promoting excellence in sculpture that is inspired by nature.
