I am currently a figurative sculptor working primarily in ceramic stoneware. Given the complexity of my work I have developed various methods to accomplish the results intended. Most of my works require forming various parts of the sculpture separately which after being high fired are melded into a single piece. Mating surfaces are bonded using a combination of epoxy and copper epoxy putty. The putty can be easily sculpted to complete the form desired. The various pieces are also reinforced using metal supports (threaded rods, etc.) for added strength and durability. Finished pieces are then painted using a mixture of acrylic paint and bronze powder. A final coating of polyurethane is applied to seal and protect the piece from UV damage.
