I create Black Bodies in Bronze. I study the strength and resilience of African Americans and create pieces in clay by my hand that are then caste in different materials like plaster and bronze. I prefer sculpture because it takes up space and space is power. I dream of seeing sculptures of and by African Americans installed throughout this country. Research is fundamental to my work. When digging for threads to weave together stories of our past, there are often generalized, misinterpreted and racist ideology that requires mending. That kind of hurt needs and deserves a healing because the truth is that African Americans built, fought and died for this country and are an essential part of American History. Such historical dysmorphia motivates me to learn about and then create narrative pieces of everyday people who did heroic things on behalf of others.
