Alaniz Sculpture

Reynaldo Alaniz
I am an associate member. I was born in Brownsville, Texas. I became interested in art in the 7th grade at Cummings Jr. High school.. After high school graduation, I attended the University of Texas. I graduated in 1968 as a registered pharmacist . Art was a hobby for me. Painting was, initially, my primary medium, but I became interested in sculpture through a friend. Around 1993, I started taking sculpture classes in Austin. I attended a marble workshop in Pietrasanta,Italy in the summer of 2000 and 2001, directed by Lynne Streeter. Around 2002, I joined the National Sculpture Society. I have the honor of having my work juried into national shows in New York twice and at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, once. I have also shown and sold work in Chicago. Up until 2016, I worked on small stones . It wasn’t until 2016 that I decided to attempt carving a large stone and the result was the limestone sculpture of Madre. That was a life changing event.
