Bob Guelich realized he wanted to be an artist while patrolling the Aleutian Islands with the Coast Guard and witnessing the majestic wildlife he saw there. He began painting, but soon turned to sculpture because he felt that working three-dimensionally better expressed his creativity and love for animals. Today, Mr. Guelich's sculptures can be found in public collections including The San Antonio Zoo, Frederik Meijer Sculpture Garden, Ronald Reagan Library, Notre Dame University, Mayo Foundation and Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum. Among the awards Mr. Guelich has received for his sculpture are the NSS Annual Exhibition Gold Medal (2000); NSS Annual Exhibition Silver Medal (2001); Medal of Excellence, Society of Animal Artists and the Silver Medal of Honor, Allied Artists of America.
