Codie Aljets began working in his family’s auto body repair and mechanics shop in Illinois when he was eight years old and continued through college. He studied fine art at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, for two years before striking out on his own. In 2012, Aljets began working with the blacksmiths at Black Star Iron Works, in Crested Butte. There he learned forging and metalsmithing techniques, including cold form techniques he uses in his fine art work. Aljets also worked as a firefighter but after his cancer diagnosis he had to retire. Currently, cancer-free, Aljets work reflects his love of the western wildlife and rugged landscape. He often incorporates reclaimed metal in his work and creates specialized commission pieces as well. He is confident that this is just a sample of the creativity and detailed work to come! Aljets resides in Gunnison, CO with his wife and son where he creates independently in a garage studio.
