I began my journey as a sculptor in 1991. I was watching a documentary about Dr. Thomas Clarke, who sculpted a successful line of gnome figurines. I was completely intrigued by his use of toothpicks and dental tools and this fabulous clay that never hardens. At the time I was a wood worker, and a wrong move created a scrap, so seeing three dimensional art that I could create while being able to work the clay until it was right was an epiphany for me. The next day, I created my first rudamentary figurative work and was hooked. My first move was to study the work, books and videos of Bruno Lucchesi and then was fortunate to find The Loveland Academy of Fine Arts and continued learning from some of the great sculptors of the American West, including Blair Buswell, Lincoln Fox, Fritz White and Star Liana York. I also studied through the programs at Brookgreen Gardens and Scottsdale Artists School, studying portraiture under Tuck Langland and relief sculpture under Eugene Daub.
