Joel Battjes is a Detroit-based sculptor, fabricator and tradesman. His work explores materiality, stasis and movement, sensory perception and sense making, and social memory, history, and connections to place. He was born and raised in East English Village, and continues to reside on Detroit’s East side. He works within the metro-Detroit/tri-county area on historic home renovations, and devotes creative/artistic time to “making stuff in the garage.”
