Laura Mulks-Elworthy a native of California, has been a professional artist for over 17 years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Network Administration In 2004. Laura relocated to Western North Carolina, Earning her Associate of Arts, whilst simultaneously being Co-Owner/Operator and Artistic Creator of handmade furniture business, Pele Design. Ultimately emigrating to Canada in 2009, settling down in British Columbia in 2012. Laura is a current resident of Salt Spring Island. Working mainly in Stoneware and Porcelain, primarily creating sculpture work, celebrating the unique aspect of nature that each piece depicts. Striving to represent the form’s details through painstakingly sculpting and carving, Laura enjoys showcasing the clay’s natural beauty, creating textures that show movement and depth within the piece, as well as the technique of burnishing,often in conjunction with underglazes, and glazes. Thus allowing the texture of the sculpture to convey a message to the viewer.
