Mishaal Atheer is an Iraqi-American sculptor and visual artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in Basra, Iraq, in 1978, he has worked in bronze sculpture and drawing for over 25 years. Influenced by ancient Mesopotamian art, his abstract figurative work explores memory, displacement, resilience, human connection, and belonging. After leaving Iraq in 2007, he lived in Jordan, where he held a solo exhibition at Foresight Gallery, before settling in California in 2010. He earned an MFA in Sculpture from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2018 and has created more than 100 bronze sculptures. His solo exhibition, The Burdens of Memory, at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara (January 30–May 16, 2027), brings together his bronze sculptures and drawings.
