Nick Barstad is a sculptor and gemstone carver working primarily in stone. His work draws on mythology, religion, and archetypal imagery to explore the human condition and the enduring questions of meaning, suffering, transformation, and transcendence. Rooted in the figurative tradition yet informed by contemporary concerns, his sculptures seek forms that feel both timeless and immediate. Working largely through direct carving, Barstad embraces a dialogue with the material, allowing the unique character of each stone to shape the final work. He welcomes private and public commissions, with particular interest in figurative, symbolic, sacred, commemorative, and site-specific projects.
