I work in a small coastal town in Northern California. The spectacular beauty of the area and the abundance of the wildlife are a constant inspiration.
I trained as a furniture maker and woodcarver in the 1980s. Since that time I have carved in wood and stone.
My sculptures pose questions of the Spirit and of the viewer's moral insight into the human experience. I understand beauty and grace to be prayer and narrative to be the telling of sacred truth.
The real work, the joy and learning for me comes in the process of going into the block and working with it to allow the image to emerge. The final image is a conversation between my frame of mind, my vision, the personality of the material and my craft.
I especially enjoy the collaborative process of working with clients to provide them with carvings that realize their vision.
