Beginning his Green-Wood career in 1972 as a teen-aged landscaper, Moylan has been president of the Cemetery since 1986.
As available burial space within its 478 acres decreases, Green-Wood faced an inevitable shift in focus, and it was Moylan’s vision that transformed Green-Wood into an important public green-space and cultural destination. He opened its gates for educational tours, art exhibits, lectures, book readings, dramatic productions, concerts and other events that draw on the Cemetery’s history and natural beauty.
Under Moylan’s tenure, the Green-Wood Historic Fund was created in 1999. This not-for-profit membership organization works to maintain the Cemetery’s sculptures, monuments and buildings of historical, cultural and architectural significance. The Fine Arts Federation awarded Moylan its highest honor in 2013 and the National Sculpture Society awarded Green-Wood its Herbert Adams Memorial Award in 2014 for promoting and supporting American sculpture and sculptors.
