The American philosopher Ken Wilber has said that the "goal of great art is the revelation of non dual spirit." Another way to say this is that All Is One. This is what I attempt to show with my sculpture. I've coined the term "Visual Koan", borrowing a word from Zen Buddhism. A koan is a seemingly unsolvable riddle designed to teach that the separation of subject and object is an illusion. One of the great koans is "what is the sound of one hand clapping." My rower is a visual presentation of a koan. I've been doing cast bronze for over 35 years. About six years ago I started doing stone carving and fabricated metal as well.
