Ruth is part of the vibrant Santa Barbara arts community and is a member of the Santa Barbara Sculpture Guild. Ruth’s art education includes workshops with notable asrtists such as Laurie Acott-Fowler in Sedona, Arizona and Phillipe Faraut in Loveland, Colorado. The latest series of workshops at the Scottsdale Artist School has been with acclaimed bronze sculptor, Rod Zullo, concentrating on horses and dogs. Her work has been in juried exhibitions in California, Arizona and Kentucky and has been selected for the National Sculpture Society 84th Annual Awards Exhibition at Brookgreen Garden in South Carolina. She is a juried member of The American Academy of Equine Art and her work is shown at Tartaglia Fine Art, Sullivan Goss - An American Gallery and Raoul. Ruth, raised in Los Angeles, spent her youth around horses. Her life long passion began as a young girl when her family relocated to Brussels where she was introduced to the European equestrian traditions. Upon returning to the U.S. hotwalking and exercising polo ponies progressed to training, teaching and showing in the competitive world of Hunters and Jumpers. She trained at farms in Malibu, California and Aspen, Colorado. Her understanding and affection for horses has a more subtle side in the joy of a beautiful ride along the beach at sunset, riding on trails above Aspen or teaching a young child how to care for a horse. “Ideas for my pieces comes from my emotions and memories I have from my years with horses. So whether it is the elegance of a beautiful walk, the tenderness of a mare with her foal, or the pure power of a galloping thoroughbred, it is these feelings that are at the heart of my work.”
