NSS Fellow Alan LeQuire’s colossal portraits of 7 musicians are currently installed at the Folk Americana Hall of Fame in Boston, MA.  Titled “Cultural Heroes” the heads of Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Lead Belly, Paul Robeson, Woody Guthrie, Marian Anderson, and Josh White are on display through 2025. The series honors these iconic musicians, each of whom leveraged their career for the sake of equality, eventually becoming grandparents of the Civil Rights movement.
