Sculptor Austen Brantley has a solo exhibition on view at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, WI.  Titled “Coarse”, the show explores identity as connected to hair. Brantley focuses attention on systemic racisms relative to stereotypes connected to the textures and styles of Black hair. Viewers are asked to consider the preferential treatment of straight hair as evidence of social barriers and biases against Black Americans.  The show runs through May 13 in the gallery at Truex on campus grounds.
