Basil Watson
The National Windrush Monument now stands proudly in London’s Waterloo station. The unveiling took place on Wednesday, June 22nd. Sculptor Basil Watson, members of the Windrush Generation, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gathered for the event. It was a moving day for all involved.
Watson has designed public sculptures and monuments across the world, including in China, the US, Guatemala and Jamaica, of figures such as Martin Luther King, Usain Bolt and Merlene Ottey. He spent part of his childhood in the UK after his parents travelled from Jamaica as part of the Windrush generation.
