Gary Staab
In late March, Gary Staab’s Columbian life-sized mammoth sculpture was installed in Omaha, Nebraska’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium. The 14-foot high, 3,500 pound bronze replica is based on the remains of “Archie” – the mammoth skeleton found in Lincoln County and on display at the University of Nebraska State Museum.
Staab, an Elected Member of National Sculpture Society, worked with paleontologists for over a year to recreate every hair and wrinkle on the mammoth’s body.
The installation is just one piece of the “African Grasslands” project at the Omaha zoo which will officially open to the public Memorial Day Weekend.
