Janice Mauro, FNSS
NSS Fellow Janice Mauro won the Margo Liebes Harris Hammerschlag Biennial Award from the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) The $5,000 award is specifically for female artists who demonstrate skill and talent in direct carving.
Mauro has been an instructor in the arts for many years and attended various residency programs. Her award-winning sculpture has been shown nationally and internationally, and also included in several permanent collections. She has created works featured in various notable Broadway Productions, such as The Lion King. She began her career as a studio assistant for Richard McDermott Miller, a renowned figurative sculptor based in New York City. Currently, she works from her wooded home studio in Connecticut, which serves as inspiration for her creations.
