Littleton Alston
In early August 2024, Littleton Alston’s bronze bust of Willa Cather was unveiled at Nebraska University’s Love Library North. The novelist is an 1895 graduate of the Lincoln, NE school. The bust is a cast from the mold used to create the seven-foot statue of Willa Cather that Alston created in 2023 for the National Statuary Hall Collection of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Alston is the first African American sculptor to have a statue in the National Statuary Hall Collection. Cather’s novels were frequently set in Nebraska and vividly portrayed frontier life in the Great Plains.
