Walker Hancock Exhibition
A special exhibition on the life of Walker Hancock, FNSS (1901-1998) is at Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester, MA. Titled “Portrait of a Sculptor: Walker Hancock & Michael Lafferty” the show is an intimate view of sculptor Walker Hancock at work in his Lanesville studio as photographed by friend Michael Lafferty. The exhibit runs from January 11 through March 31, 2025. Lafferty will also give a gallery talk on February 6, 2025.
Earlier in the year, Robert Shure and Lisa Benson, from Skylight Studios, demonstrated the conservation of Walker Hancock’s bust of Abraham Lincoln. Hancock was commissioned to create the bust in 1978 for the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It depicts Lincoln delivering his farewell speech to the citizens of Springfield, Illinois.
