FIGURATIVE SCULPTURE INVITATIONAL EXHIBITION

This is a group exhibition of present and past sculptors who have drawn their inspiration from the human and animal figurative form. Progressive representational sculptors in this show have had the task to seek out and learn traditional methods and techniques, which are often challenging to find in the academic settings today, while creating vital contemporary art. These sculptures are accomplished through technical proficiency, anatomical perception, and observational skills. A successful figurative sculptor additionally must balance this with a contemporary awareness of art theory that also shows an empathy of how and why the human figure serves as a vehicle for meaning.  The show is on view at the Marsh Gallery at the Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis, IN  from November 8, 2023 – January 20, 2024.

Artists included in the show:  Gabriel Akre; Denis Birdsell; Austen Brantley; Jacqueline Carlson; Emily Caito, NSS; Tim Cooper; Jacob E. Dobson, NSS; Marshall Fredericks, FNSS (1908-1998); Gregory Glasson; Brent Harris; Charles Hyde; Preston Eugene Jackson; Tuck Langland, FNSS; Cara Lawson-Ball; David H.
