Gordon Alt
The National Sculpture Society awards Gordon Alt the Herbert Adams Memorial Award, an honor presented as the occasion warrants to recognize service to American sculpture or outstanding achievement by a sculptor.
Gordon has been an integral member of the National Sculpture Society for twenty-five years, taking on leadership roles and serving as 2nd Vice President from 2014 to 2023. In 2018, he received the Sisko Memorial Award for his work as the Executive Director of the John Cavanaugh Foundation and as an Editorial Committee member for Sculpture Review magazine. From 2020 through 2023, Gordon, along with Robin R. Salmon, took on the positions of co-editors, playing an even greater role in the production of Sculpture Review. Gordon devoted significant time to editing and writing for numerous issues.
“We are pleased to recognize Gordon’s decades of generosity to the NSS. Gordon is someone who has always said yes when asked to help and is one of the major pillars contributing to the structure of the NSS,” says Amy Kann, chair of the Honors and Awards Committee.
The Herbert Adams Memorial Award consists of an engraved medal and a hand-lettered certificate. Past recipients include Joseph Veach Noble (1978), David Finn (1982), Raymond D. Nasher (2004), and Michael Graves (2010). For more information about Gordon Alt or the National Sculpture Society, please contact the office at news@nationalsculpture.org or 212-764-5645 ext. 102.
