Beacon Of Hope

On September 10, 2022, crowds will gather at the Dorchester County Courthouse to dedicate “Beacon of Hope” by Wesley Wofford, FNSS. The unveiling celebration marks the culmination of two years of community grassroots fundraising and activities to create and install the permanent sculpture. Wofford is working on the final stages of the statue at Pyrology Foundry.

The sculpture depicts American abolitionist and social activist, Harriet Tubman. The dedication is being held in conjunction with other events on the Fourth Annual Day of Resilience.

Maryland’s Governor, Larry Hogan, proclaimed 2022 as “The Year of Harriet Tubman” to commemorate the bicentennial of her birth.
