Chesterwood Open Through October 31
Chesterwood, the site of the 2023 NSS Sculpture Celebration, is open through October 31, 2025.
The summer home, studio and gardens of American Renaissance sculptor Daniel Chester French reopened its doors in May after an extensive, four-year renovation and rehabilitation project to preserve the French family residence. Chesterwood has showcased dozens of artists in music, dance, theater, and the literary arts in its continuing series, Arts Alive! and Words Alive!; presented programs and works by resident artists, sculptor Heidi Wastweet, and musicians the Bel Canto Duo; held its first Garden Tea Party fundraiser, and hosted three ice cream socials, in partnership with High Lawn Farms, to encourage families and children to participate in the arts.
This season, Chesterwood has already seen a 60% increase in summer attendance over previous seasons, under the leadership of Executive Director Miguel Rodriguez. “Daniel Chester French created some of his most iconic work at Chesterwood – notably the seated Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.,” says Rodriguez, “But he also leaves a legacy of artistic collaboration, welcoming artists, dancers, musicians, and writers to his summer haven. Our aim is to continue Chesterwood’s legacy as a center of flourishing creativity.”
Chesterwood is open every day except Tuesday from 10-5 through October 31, with weekly nature walks available on Mondays at 3 PM, and curator tours of the Modeling Women Exhibition on Wednesdays at 3. Guided and self-guided tours are available, as well as a grounds-only pass to explore Chesterwood’s extensive trails and gardens.
