Chris Kunk
The American Numismatic Society commissioned a medal to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States. The medal, entitled The Pursuit of Happiness Through Enterprise was created by medallist and sculptor Chris Kunk, Artistic Fellow at the Newington-Cropsey Foundation and Associate of NSS. In 2024 and 2025, Kunk won the NSS Dexter Jones Award.
The Pursuit of Happiness Through Enterprise features uniquely American themes to honor the virtues that shaped the United States. The obverse features an allegorical representation of Time holding a gear and standing in front of a clock. The clock, set to 2:50, represents the 250th anniversary of this great nation. Standing before the dates 1776 and 2026, Time also gazes towards not only the present but beyond it into the future, representing not only America’s devotion to its past, but also the forward-looking frontier spirit that has defined American innovation. The reverse features three horses, embodying the unbridled spirit that drives American progress.
