Dylan Lewis, NSS
South African sculptor, Dylan Lewis, is creating a series of coins for the South African Mint. Titled “The African Range,” the collection follows the stages of a cheetah’s hunt. The first release, The Survey, depicts a poised cheetah. The image is based on Lewis’s sculpture Survey Cheetah III, a life-size edition of which is included in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town. From the South African Mint’s press release: “The African Range was created from real sculptures that were photographed, transformed into relief models, and refined using advanced 3D technology. This unique combination of traditional craftsmanship and digital development enabled the creation of exceptionally detailed and dynamic coin designs.”
Five coins will be minted for the series and will be released yearly through 2030.
