Event in Newark, NJ
On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the Newark History Society, NJPAC and Newark Public Library are sponsoring a free outdoor program in Newark, NJ. To attend, please RSVP by September 17.
Guy Sterling, a retired newspaper reporter, author and historian, will give a presentation on J. Massey Rhind’s statue of George Washington. The over life-size equestrian statue depicts Washington’s farewell to the troops in 1783. Rhind, a Charter member of the National Sculpture Society, dedicated the piece on November 2, 1912 with President William Howard Taft in attendance.
The event starts at 11 am. Meet at the plaza in front of the Newark Museum of Art, opposite Harriet Tubman Square (formerly Washington Park). Rain date September 26, 2026.
