Kate Brockman, FNSS

In late May, NSS Fellow Kate Brockman installed her piece Boy: Portrait of a Word at the Methodist Cemetery in New Hope, PA.  The piece is part of the New Hope ARTS Public ARTS program. According to the press release, the work thoughtfully examines the layered history and meaning behind the word “boy,” particularly its historical use toward enslaved African American men, while honoring the humanity and dignity of those subjected to it. Brockman gave a talk on Sunday, May 24, 2026 that was free and open to the public.
