Susannah Israel

Work by Susannah Israel was selected for the exhibition “The Power of Images in Sacred and Festive Space.” The exhibition is part of the 2025 Visual Literacy Association Conference in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The work is called ‘We are the body, the boat and the water,’ and it is about the human journey and how our lives shape who we become. The visual metaphor of transformation is shown as water moving up the bodies of each figure. Israel created the piece at the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana in 2024, where Israel was an invited guest artist. The Foundation’s Voulkos Fellowship provides housing, travel, materials and a state of the art studio space. Israel has been a three-time resident there, in three different capacities, across three decades. Look for more information in the upcoming Ceramics Now Magazine.
