Cape Ann Museum
The next exhibition at Cape Ann Museum Green. “Portrait of a Sculptor: Walker Hancock & Michael Lafferty” will be on view at the Janet & William Ellery James Center from January 11 – March 30, 2025.
To celebrate the opening of this new exhibition, members are invited to observe Robert Shure and Lisa Benson, from Skylight Studios, as they conserve Walker Hancock’s bust of Abraham Lincoln. Hancock was commissioned to create the bust in 1978 for the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It depicts Lincoln delivering his farewell speech to the citizens of Springfield, Illinois.
Walker Hancock was one of the premier American sculptors of the 20th century and a highly engaged and respected member of the Cape Ann community. Michael Lafferty is a skilled photographer who spent hours photographing Hancock in his Lanesville studio, creating a series of intimate portraits of the sculptor at work. This exhibit will combine the work of Lafferty and Hancock.
The CAM Green offers free general admission, but timed-ticketed vehicle reservations are required due to limited parking.
